In Africa there are almost as many types of flute as there are drums. The African flute that your child will learn with Greenwich Young Musicians is from Ghana and is tuned to a C major scale. It is made from bamboo and is very similar to the recorder in that you blow down the pipe held in a vertical position in order to create a sound.
The process of learning the flute is an important stepping stone for children to start playing melodies on an instrument. Children will gain an understanding of pitch on an instrument, and relate the notes they learn on flute to notes from songs that they can already sing.
